Welcome to the gallery of Pictures chosen by the children. Here we showcase work and events chosen by the children themselves.

Mrs Annette Brooke MP
On Friday 24th February Mrs Annette Brooke MP and two representatives from Sainsbury’s visited our school.

They came to see how we are using a set of resources provided free by Sainsbury’s. It is part of their ‘1 Million Kids’ campaign which encourages schools to give children experience of disability sport.

The equipment enables the children to try a series of paralympic activities and gain some understanding of what it must be like to be a paralympian.

A group of Year 6 children have been trialling the activities ready to share them with our younger pupils. The activities include Goal Ball, Sitting Volleyball and Blind Football. The children have found them quite challenging but great fun.

During the visit our Year 6 children demonstrated the activities they have been practising so far.

These included ‘Blind Football’ skills and ‘Seated Volleyball’.

It was when they were playing ‘Seated Volleyball’ that we persuaded Mrs Brooke and the manager of Sainsbury’s in Wareham to join in. After a close fought game the orange team, with Mrs Brooke, won 6—5.

During the summer term, the Year 6 children will use the knowledge and skills they have learned to run lunchtime clubs giving younger children opportunities to try these activities.

Our visitors were very impressed by the efforts of our children and congratulated them on their performance and behaviour.

We hope that next term Sainsbury’s will be able to enable some members of the Dorset Blind Football Association to visit us and demonstrate their skills.
