Home Learning

Last year, our school ECO team expressed concern over the amount of paper used, photocopying and ‘lost books’ at our school. To help save the environment, one idea that the children came up with, was to go ‘paperless’ with their homework… now to be known as ‘Home Learning’.  We thought this was a great idea and have therefore worked with the children and staff to arrange the following Home Learning plan for each Year group moving forwards.

Home Learning in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

In the EYFS we encourage you to share books with your child, talk to them about their school day and as they move through the school year, encourage their independence.      It is important to read with your child regularly and explore with them the sounds they learn in Phonics (these will be sent home as we teach them).  Talk about numbers and shapes in the environment and always ask your child’s class teacher if you want any advice or ideas. We are always here to help.

Home Learning in Year 1

Children in Year 1 will learn age appropriate spellings that should be practised at home using the online activities on Spelling Frame. Please read regularly at home with your child and comment in their home reading log.  At the bottom of your child’s class page on the school website, there are VIPER style questions that can help you talk through books with your child to help with comprehension.   The children will also have a Mathletics login so that they can practise their mathematics at home.

Home Learning in Years 2-6

Most of the home learning in Years 2-6 will now be set online.  Please do not worry if your child does not have access to a computer or electronic device at home, your child’s class teacher will ensure arrangements are made for your child to access their home learning online.

Mathematics Home Learning= Either TT Rockstars activities focusing on times tables, or Mathletics home learning activities will be set online by your child’s class teacher.

English Home Learning= Spelling Frame online activities that link to the spelling pattern taught during that week in your child’s class will be set by your child’s class teacher.

Project Based Home Learning= One optional project will be set on a termly basis for the children to engage with should they wish.  It will be able to be completed in any form the children feel happy with, including electronic, paper or display.

Home Learning in Year 6

As the year progresses, Year 6 pupils will be given a home learning textbook to support their learning within Mathematics, Reading and GPS.  This will be in place of online learning tasks and will be shared with parents during the October parents’ evening appointments.

We really appreciate your support with this and hope that it will work towards creating a more positive home learning experience for our children, as well as help towards saving the planet.

Please speak to your child’s class teacher with any questions, concerns or feedback you may have, we really appreciate this to enable us to provide the very best support for the children.
