Yr5/6 Sensational Swimmers!

On Wednesday 18th January, Mr Noyce, Miss Winkworth and I took a team of 16 enthusiastic and determined swimmers to Canford School to compete in the East Dorset Swimming Gala.

Each team was comprised of 4 girls and 4 boys from Years 5 and 6.  After arriving and settling on to the poolside, team Lytchett began their warm up and team talks to ensure we were all prepared for the many races ahead.

The races were completed in heats, Lytchett being in the second, which meant that we could watch some of the swimmers for each year group before our amazing swimmers could race themselves. Although it was useful to watch these races, it made many of our swimmers nervous, having to wait even longer for their races.

Lytchett competed exceptionally well against the other competitors and we did incredibly well in our heats, however we are currently unaware of where we came overall in each race as we did not have our own or the other team’s times.

As the gala was running a little behind schedule our swimmers had to get changed, not knowing what the final result was, however eventually we learnt that Lytchett Matravers had come 3rd out of 9 with a total of 145 points!  Lockyers School achieving 2nd, with 179 points, and St Michaels School coming 1st with 195 points.

Miss Winkworth, Mr Noyce and I left the pool feeling extremely proud of all of our swimmers, as well as having sore throats and hands from clapping and shouting encouragement from the poolside.

A big thank you to our drivers, supporters and parents for your support with transport and at the Gala.  Additionally, we would like to say thank you to Danny who was our timekeeper for the event.

Finally, a very well deserved thank you to all of the swimmers, for your hard work, team work and determination to succeed, our school is incredibly proud of you all.
