Week beginning 13th July 2020
I thought it would be a good way to end the year by doing some poetry. Some of the poems have good messages- which are quite relevant for us all during these difficult times. They have certainly made me think about the future whilst I have been reading them. The poem ‘What do you want to be’, reminded me of when I was younger and all the things I wanted to be (an ice-cream designer/maker, a dancer, fashion designer, perfume maker, jewellery maker, actress, restaurant/hotel owner, nursery owner and finally a teacher)
I hope you enjoy this unit as much as I enjoyed reading the poems!
Each day has a separate attachment below with all the planning guidance/lesson plan and resources needed for that day.

Summer Reading Challenge:
Have a go at doing the Summer Reading challenge so we can continue to be the leading participating school in Dorset. This year it will all be done digitally and the theme is Silly-Squad! Ask your parents to help you log on. An email with all the information has been sent out.
Brief Outline of Week – Poetry week
Monday 13th July 2020
Day 1 –
LO: To read and reflect on a poem performed by the poet.
Summary of tasks:
Read and listen to the poem: What do you want to be? They reflect on the poem and write to the poet.
Tuesday 14th July 2020
Day 2 –
LO: To read poems on a theme and answer comprehension questions.
Summary of tasks:
Children read poems on the theme of keeping on. They answer comprehension questions and choose quotations from the poems.
Wednesday 15th July 2020
Day 3 –
LO: To read a poem. Revise metaphors. Write a poem.
Children to read the poem: Hold Fast to Your Dreams. They revise metaphors and similes.
Thursday 16th July 2020
Day 4 –
LO: To Analyse a performance.
To revise modal verbs and write sentences choosing and using modal verbs
Look at PPP on Modal Verbs (with audio). If children can access this PowerPoint, they will hear the voice-over teaching. Children re-read What do you want to be? They search for modal verbs and write sentences about their future using modal verbs.
Friday 17th July 2020
Day 5 –
To join in with a familiar poem.
Write and perform a new version. Children read and join in with What do you want to be? They use a frame to plan and write a new version of the poem and prepare a performance of their poem.
Extension: Can someone film you performing your poem? Can you add any actions, sound effects or costumes to your performance? Can others in your family join in too?
Please send all work to your class email for your teachers to see. I am sure they would all like to know what you want to be when you are older!
