Our school uniform consists of:

Uniform at our School

Our aim is that uniform is inclusive and low cost. It consists of the following items:

  • White polo shirt (plain)
  • Lytchett Matravers branded jumper, cardigan or fleece
  • Grey plain skirt (knee length), grey shorts or grey trousers (any school year)/ Grey plain pinafore dress (Reception, Year One and Year Two only)*
  • Plain grey socks or tights
  • A summer gingham dress (red and white check) can be worn in warmer weather–white socks can be worn with a summer dress only.
  • Plain black sensible school shoes, not boots or trainers. Shoes should be all black, including the soles, and in good condition so that pupils are safe and comfortable.

During winter months all children should wear a coat as they spend time outside during the day.

* During the 2026-2027 academic year, pinafore dresses will be permitted for pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 as the children grow out of their existing uniform.

Pre-loved uniform

We ask all parents to donate any uniform that is still in good condition but is no longer used. Provision of second-hand uniform is held throughout the year

on Wednesday from 3:30–4:30. This is open to all families requiring uniform. All staff can also access the supply of uniform from the ‘shop’ during the

school day to meet any need dynamically.

P.E. Kits

All children are required to have a P.E. uniform which consists of:-

  • Plain black shorts, ‘skorts’, tracksuit bottoms or leggings (no sporting logos)
  • Plain T- shirt in house colours (Arundel–yellow; Maltravers–blue; Trenchard–green)
  • Plain white or grey socks
  • Sports trainers (Please note: indoor gymnastics will be conducted in bare feet)
  • Optional school branded hoodie or plain hoodie in school maroon colour (school jumper or fleece can be worn as an alternative)

General Appearance

Hair

  • All hair at or below shoulder length must be tied back or braided at all times in school, but
  • especially during P.E. and games lessons.
  • Hair ties and headbands must be small and discreet.
  • Hair should be off the face, clipped back and not obscuring sight.
  • Hair should be no shorter than a Grade 2 cut and pupils should not wear extreme hair fashions,
  • including dyed or streaked hair and images or lines cut into the hair.

Jewellery

Apart from plain stud earrings and small analogue or digital watches (which have an educational value

in helping children to learn how to tell the time and take responsibility for their own time keeping), the wearing of jewellery in school is not permitted. Items can easily get lost or damaged, or may be the cause of injury. The school cannot accept responsibility for the loss of such articles.

Smart watches are not allowed in school due to their value and being a potential distraction from learning, as well as due to the potential safeguarding risk that they pose.

During any physical education in school, including swimming, children must not wear any jewellery because of safety aspects. Children must therefore either be able to remove earrings themselves, or not wear stud earrings to school on P.E. days.

We request that parents / carers try and arrange for their children to have their ears pierced at the very beginning of the summer holiday so that by September studs can be removed for P.E. lessons. As all children’s ears are different and the healing rate varies there might be the need to wear studs for slightly longer than the recommended time of six weeks. If this is the case, then the studs must be removed either by the child or parent before the P.E. lesson begins. P.E. and swimming are a compulsory part of the National Curriculum and children are expected to take part in all sessions.

Make-up and Nails

The wearing of make-up, nail varnish or false nails is considered inappropriate for a learning culture and is not permitted. Children will be asked to remove this / these items.
